The Bug Light Festival is our signature event, combining all that is wonderful about Cape Elizabeth and South Portland, this festival, always held on a Saturday in August at breathtaking Bug Light Park, features dozens of vendors of all types. We have artists showing and selling their work, service businesses offering demonstrations, local non-profits hosting games and contests and retailers selling their products.

Our police departments do K9 demonstrations, Bug Light Lighthouse is open for tours, and rumor has it the real tooth fairy makes an appearance every year! Add to all this nonstop fun of children’s games, the opportunity to participate in a yoga class, martial arts demonstrations and introductory classes, a bouncy house, live music from incredible local performers, and let’s not forget the food. Oh, the food.

The aroma of days spent at the ballpark drifts past you as a local grocer grills locally-produced sausages, the smoky allure of Southern BBQ calls you in, and homemade root beer flows from the side of a local soda truck. Not ready to eat yet? Have a cup of locally-roasted coffee, or a have them pour that coffee into a rich, sweet frozen drink that you will never forget. And don’t forget, this whole fun, exciting, family-friendly day takes place at Bug Light Park, where 180 degree views of Casco Bay can be taken in from the acres of plush lawn as sailboats drift silently by, and lobster boats move from trap to trap. There’s a reason we call this our “signature event.” There’s nothing else like it in the world. We can’t wait ‘til next year!
